Luna, princess of the night 2 by Znegil Luna, princess of the night 2 by Znegil
Finally finished....
after 250+ hours she is complete.
I guess it is normal that I started to speak to her, after all that time we spend together ;-)

I modified a 3D model :iconkp-shadowsquirrel: made [link] so that I could make a papercraft out of it.

It is made out of 70 pages of 300 g/m2 paper, the paper was 32x45 cm.

The finished model is 127 cm tall, that is 50 inches, or 4 feet 2 inches...

As I promised, you can download all 70 pages I did for this model, so you can do it yourself.
Download: [link]

To make it even easier for you to look up where every part belong, download the free "Pepakura Viewer" from [link] and open this file [link] within this viewer, it helps a lot.
"....." are valley folds /
"-----" are montain folds /

It takes more time then skill... it took 250+ hours.
If you want to do it yourself, you can ask me for advice and I try to help you.

Any chance we can get original Pepakura file?  Would like access to the ref image for parts, as well as the ability to scale it.  Thanks

Yes, that is paper.
The Art is called papercraft.
I modified a 3D model, used a special program (Pepakura) to unfold that model, printed it out...
and only 250-300 hours later... this is the result.

I know the paper is 32x45cm but what is it specifically? A3?

It is SRA3 which is a little bigger then A3.
You can just use A3 and be fine, your model will just be 10% smaller.

Oh! This is so wonderful! 4'2"? Gosh! That's big! Good for you to have the space to put it somewhere.

Be honest. It probably makes you sad to look at her and not being able to hug her. I know I would be sad at that.

Well, I could hug her if I would do it tenderly,
300 g/m² paper is pretty strong, together with the glue... and then there is the foam inside her torso.

Simply amazing! I tried to this exact thing several months ago but then remembered I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EDIT MODELS! DX. Got pretty far though before giving up. Now that I found that you've done the huge task of fixing that problem I can finally take a crack at it :D

One question though, what paint did you use for this? and when you used the foam did you only use it on the wings?

Great, I am looking foreward to see your progress!
I used acryl paint, it shines nicely, relativly cheap and gives her a bit of water resistent ;-)
I used 300 g/m2 paper for it in SRA3 format, I made a tutorial on how to use the pepakura designer to use the .pdo file so you can do whatever size you want. See here: [link]
I used the foam just for the wings, for the connection between tail and body, do two additional layers of paper inside the connection, that helps a lot, I did so with my pinkie pie.

According to wikipedia, the model of Luna would be a medium sized pony (shown below) however based on [link] we know that regular ponies are about 4ft tall. However, based on [link] we can see that Luna is a head taller than Twilight, so Luna should actually be about 5 feet.

"For showing purposes, ponies are often grouped into small, medium, and large sizes... medium ponies are over 12.2 but no taller than 13.2 hands (54 inches (140 cm))"
